Online group offer "Confidently mastering exams"
fully booked
28.11.2022 - 30.01.2023, every Monday 4:00 - 5:30 pm
Exams are a very stressful topic for some students. While excitement and stress are normal during exam time, some students experience the following in connection with exams: Just thinking about the exam makes your heart race, you breathe faster, you start to sweat, and you may have stomach/intestinal problems. Concentration becomes much more difficult and possibly sleep problems are also a factor. Just thinking about the exam can trigger thoughts and feelings of failure. In this way, preparation for the exam is naturally already very difficult. Before the exam itself, however, the tension reaches a maximum for many students and they can no longer recall their knowledge well. If you feel like this or similar, you could benefit from our group offer: In eight sessions we will discuss what test anxiety is, how it arises, what successful test preparation can look like, and what can be done to counteract catastrophizing thoughts and expectations. Concrete strategies for the day of the exam will also be discussed.

Group offer "Mastering social situations more confidently"
27.10.2022 - 15.12.2022, Thursdays 4:00pm - 5:30pm.
As social beings, we need communication and relationships with others to fulfill our needs. It gets tricky for our self-worth when contact with others proves to be difficult and not purposeful in repeated ways. This can affect the following situations in everyday life: If you want to
- enforce justified demands
- express feelings in (important) relationships and understand the other person
- create sympathy with another persons
If you avoid such situations out of fear or only end them with nervousness and often unsatisfactory results, and if you get caught up in behavioral and thought patterns, you could benefit from the course. In seven sessions we look at possible reasons for insecurity in social situations, work out characteristics of self-confident behavior and distinguish these from aggressive behavior. In the group, we tackle the modification of possible catastrophizing thoughts and expectations and learn concrete strategies for everyday life.
Since the work is behavioral and practice-oriented with role plays and video feedback, participation in the course requires the willingness to do so.

Course: Mindful through everyday life
At the end of this semester, Patricia Siegert will guide you in various exercises from the field of mindfulness and meditation, which you can integrate into your everyday student life without much effort. Especially when (off) times are needed for yourself to regain strength, energy and inner balance.
Mindfulness is a perception technique that focuses on the present moment: Observing without valuing is the credo here. The main focus is on consciously experiencing a moment outside with the help of the five senses as well as on the perception of your own body, your own feelings and sensations (your inner world).
The course gives you the opportunity to deal more intensively with these observation processes and invites you to train your own mindfulness by means of various methods and to contribute to strengthening self-regulation and your own resilience.

Course: Becoming active for your own mental satisfaction
Do you feel less capable or listless? Do you feel depressed or have you already experienced mood slumps during the last winters? Are you "overthinking" everything or have you lost your bearings? Perhaps you would like to seize the opportunity and start the coming semester with new stimuli and contacts!
In this group offering, you can learn to deal with unpleasant thoughts and feelings differently, pay attention to your own needs, and get into positive activity. And you can find orientation through the alignment with your own values and the exchange with people who feel the same way.

Group offer for Ukrainian students in our university area
The Studentenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg invites Ukrainian students to talk about their own fears and worries, e.g. about family members and friends in their home country, or other psychological burdens in connection with the political situation in Ukraine. Because: "Together you are less alone". In the group, students can give each other sympathy and strength and thus support each other during this difficult time.
They will be professionally accompanied by the psychologist David Zeiß as well as the communication psychologist Patricia Siegert, who will give inputs on the topic of fear and worry and the feelings of powerlessness that can arise as well as offer exercises to strengthen one's own resources and self-efficacy.
It is worth bringing: Openness to the group growing together, a little courage to get involved, and a willingness to try a strategy or two for dealing with the current crisis situation.
